6 months old usually for small dog tyes when she gets her first heat - for some dogs this cycle is every 9 months and even 1 yr in some cases. have her spade before 6 months old.
wow
no
one your puppy hits the age of 6 months get her spay because you have no clue what you are doing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You REALLY have no clue what your doing PUPPIE ARE NOT A WAY TO MAKE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you don’t get them the correct treatment they WILL die meaning you will spend THOUSANDS of dollars on testing, whelping and the actual care (aka vets, food etc) if you want to go bankrupt breeding would be the way to do it, but you’re not so find a real Job
first why would you be thinking about breeding your chihuahua especially at her age.its like if you breed your 5yr old to have a child for you!
dogs can not get pregnant until 1 1/2yrs so that they will grow normal like all dogs should be instead of being pred at 6months at a very small age when they are not full grown,it can cause many problems.
dont breed your chihuahua im thinking your wanting money out of her since you just bought her and asking this question at her age and also dont bother being an owner just a breeder.shes a baby so treat her like one.
if not go make your child have a baby since your gonna force this poor thing to make you money!
HAHAHAHAHAHA are you mad????? 8 week old puppy getting prego damn its like having a 1 year old human baby getting prego..GET UR DOG SPADE.. we don’t need anymore dogs in this world especially in the damn pounds.
When a chihuahua is first able to bear offspring depends on the dog, just as humans. They can become fertile in just nine months to two whole years, but there is no way that your dog can be pregnant at merely eight weeks old.
Good Grief. Im hoping you are only asking so you get her spayed before her first heat. Small dogs are physically able to become pregnant around 6-9months HOWEVER dog who are going to be bred, should not do so until the age of 2. To let your 6-9 month old dog breed would be like letting a 12 year old girl have babies. All kinds of complications and problems.
So In hopes this is where you were going…you can schedule her spay around 6-9 months. Some vets might want to wait until she is over 1 year so she is a bit bigger. Just be careful not to have her around any male dogs.
ETA: ~sigh~ thats what I get for having faith in people. If you have no money, sell the dog so you don’t have to pay for dog food, turn off the internet connection, and sell the computer. You won’t get money out of a litter of Chihuahuas. Chances are she will have to have an emergency c-section which will be between $1500-$3500….so why not just sell her now. Collect your unemployment checks and look for a new job. Leave the poor puppy with someone with a brain.
I understand that you would want to see the miracle of birth and what it’s like to have puppies but what you are asking is nutty. I don’t want to get you frustrated but instead I would like you to realize what you are getting into.
Number one, no your dog can not have puppies at that age. It would be like trying to have a four year old have kids.
Number two, dogs usually get their first heat at about 6 months to a year. But to breed a dog during this time would be like a teenager ages 12-16 having kids, which is nuts.
Number three, do you know how much money it cost to breed dogs? You have to pay for each vaccination, pay for medical supplies, dog supplies, and what if something were to go wrong with the litter? If you breed young then your dog will probably have medical problems with the litter that will cost you money.
Number four, what do you plan to do with these puppies? Keep them? Litters can range in chihuahuas can be from 1- 5 puppies. Also, people aren’t buying puppies as much because of the economy and also you can’t just sell your puppies with out looking at the owners.
Number five, doing this would make you be labeled Puppy Mill Breeder or BackYard Breeder. You are not at all thinking about the dog’s health and you are contributing to the 4-6 million dogs that get put down in shelters each year from stupid breeders and bad owners.
Number six, please spay your dog and learn A LOT more about breeding and then decided if you want to breed your dogs. Also, when I say learn about it I don’t mean just read online and study but go to your local dog training center and they will be able to help you through it.
no you cant she has to be at least six months
you should spay her b/c there is an over
population of dogs and most likely they
will end up in a kill shelter
If you think your going to make money out of dog breeding you are so wrong, this is my list of what is involved in what i do to breed my dogs. If you then think you can make money then i pity you as there are far better ways to make money that does not involve BYB. By the way the minimum age a female should be to carry a litter is at least 2 years old. Any earlier you risk your dog’s health and sometimes this can lead to death, especially in a small breed dog, as they have a greater possibility of complications.
Here are some of the costs and time associated with having litters of puppies, this is why i don’t make money from breeding, however what i do make goes into my dogs and showing and future litters. To me it’s preserving the bloodline and ensuring good lifetime homes.
Purchase your male and female. Raise them to adulthood breeding age. (Female minimum breeding age is third cycle, male about 1 year.) Feed them excellent food and make sure they always have all their health checks, vaccinations, and permits. Provide exercise, toys, training, and a safe fenced yard for them to play in.
Register your dogs with KC and purchase certified pedigrees so that potential puppy buyers may view them.
If you show, add those costs in, plus delay breeding by two years.
Get a pre-pregnancy health check for your girl, she should visit the vet while expecting also, supplement her diet to make sure she and the growing pups are healthy. She should have an after pregnancy health check. (Remember, every time you breed her, you run the risk of losing her to a birth complication.)
If you do not own a stud, you must find a suitable stud. Make sure he is disease free and is safe for your girl. You must prove to the stud owner that your girl is healthy and suitable. You will either give up the pick of the litter or will pay at least the going price of one of his pups as a stud fee.
At age 2 years, sire and dam should be x-rayed for hips & eye tested. Send in the results for an OFA Cert.
Purchase the birthing supplies to be prepared for any emergency during delivery. Make sure your vet is available in case a c section is needed.
The puppies are now here. Mom must be provided perfect nutrition. Puppies should be handled several times a day so they love people. Register the litter with the KC.
Take the puppies to the vet for their initial well baby check.
When Mom says its time to start weaning the pups (about 4 weeks, when their sharp little teeth are in), you start supplementing them with good quality puppy food. You need to feed them several times a day. Mom will still be nursing also. The puppies will start having a lot more bowel movements, so you will now be cleaning their area several times a day. (You are raising them inside, aren’t you? Did you count the cost of the puppy birthing, growing, weaning area?) Be sure to keep good records on weight gain and watch for any puppy that doesn’t advance socially and physically with the litter. Those puppies need special attention and perhaps a visit to the vet.
Start interviewing potential puppy parents. You want your puppies to go to great forever homes.
Be sure to start socializing the puppies. Play with the puppies every day. They need to know that people come in different sizes, sounds, colors, and smells. You have lots of puppy toys now. All different textures, colors, and shapes. Lots of squeak toys. Puppies that are introduced to a variety of experiences are less likely to become fearful.
Raising healthy well adjusted puppies is easier said than done. Did you keep track of how many hours you spent caring for the puppies?
Do you still think puppy prices are too high? Of course if you really want a cheap puppy, puppy mills mass produce puppies to keep costs down, kennel breeders have many dogs kept in kennels they usually have reduced price pups. It’s your choice, a home raised baby, a kennel pup or a puppy mill puppy.
PLEASE< PLEASE do not use your puppy to make money. Breeding is a demanding and difficult hobby to get into. Yes, it is more of a hobby and not something you should be considering to make money from. Consider selling your pup to someone else who knows how to better take care of puppies and understands the responsibility.
Sell your pup to make the extra money…That would be best. Then educate yourself before purchasing another puppy so you know how to raise them and care for them. Then educate yourself on breeding. You are not at all prepared for this pup in your life.
What kinda nonsense is this question? Your profile says you’re a single mother with 4 kids, and 3 months pregnant with quadruplets. I smell a troll…
LG: It’s possible that she can get pregnant at 6-8 months, but it’s not likely she’ll live through it. Get a job.
You do realize chihuahuas often need c-sections to have their puppies seeing as the puppies have such large heads?
Not to mention the mother may die if she has too many pups.
