I tried for 3 yrs and saw my Dr for bleeding issues that eventually turned out to be the result of my body trying to cope with a diminishing ovarian reserve.
I took Clomid at 50mg on days 5-9 before I saw the specialist and it didn’t do anything for me.
Once I saw the specialist I took 100mg on days 3-7 and I ovulated early enough in my cycle and I am pregnant on the first round at 100mg.
This is how I took it to get the least side effects such as headaches, stomach upset etc..
How many mg?
If you are taking 50mg, take it at night..if there are any side effects like headaches or mild stomach upset you will be less likely to notice it at night.
If 100mg, take 1 pill at breakfast with food and then take the other at bedtime and with milk.
If 150mg, take 1 in the am at breakfast with food, and 2 at bedtime with milk and maybe a light snack that wont upset your stomach.
I never had any side effects from Clomid taking it this way.
I produced many follicles and became pregnant in one cycle of 100mg.
If anything I was told that since I have a diminishing reserve the Clomid would help me ovulate more than one follicle so I have better chances of a quality egg and they should be monitoring you for the mature follicles and making sure you are responding to the Clomid.
Here is how you should be trying as well..The best way to not miss ovulation is to throw out the thermometers and begin having sex every other day between days 9-22 of your cycle. Have your partner abstain from any ejaculation on the day in between to rebuild his sperm count whether he has a problem or not. Sperm can live in your body under the right conditions anywhere from 3 days to 1 week and by having sex every other day through most of your cycle, you are guaranteeing that you will have sperm available for that egg. Try to lay still for at least 10-15 minute after sex with your knees up.
You should definitely be having sex before, during and after ovulation.. basically all month long.. no chart can tell you exactly when ovulation happened or is about to happen..its a guide if that..if your cycle is not perfect the method is not going to work and many things such as fever, illness, infection can alter your temps and mucous. Forget about charting and have a lot of sex all month long. when trying to conceive there is no such thing as too much sex.
I was unable to get pregnant for almost 5 years after receiving the Depo shot (I only got the shot once). After that period of infertility I have succeeded in getting pregnant 5 times in the last 5 years. I cannot answer your question about Clomiphene and for that I am sorry, but I wanted to share my experience with infertility after the horrid depo shot. Don’t give up hope! I hope this treatment is successful for you
i have researched the drug "clomid" which is clomiphene (HGC) and from my gathering it is a drug that causes you to ovulate several eggs at a time so that your chances of getting pregnant are highly boosted, the only semi negative thing ive heard about the drug is that one of the side effects is you are more likey to conceive twins or even triplets. but for some people that is a blessing. and ive heard from ALOT of women who have concived within the first month they start it. anyways hope this helps
My suggestion is to skip the OB/GYN and seek out an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist). These are the doctors that know the most on how to get pregnant (your OB/GYN comes back into the picture once the RE gets your pregnancy to about 10 weeks). These are the doctors you should find in ART programs (Assisted Reproductive Technologies). They are the same doctors that do procedures like IVF, but there is a lot more that they do than just IVF (IVF is sort of like the last resort).
Clomid is given in diff doses and typically is only taken like a week at a time. It may or may not cause you to have multiples. If your doc gets the dose correct, chances are you will only have one baby. Don’t be scared of Clomid. It has done wonders for many women that cannot get pregnant on their own. They will most likely only give you a couple rounds of clomid and if it don’t work, they may want to try other options. Be sure if you get into this and start looking at IVF or IUI, that they test your partner to make sure there is good sperm.
Infertility is horrible for all of us who are facing it. You have to push thru and don’t give up. It takes some people years to conceive and they’d tell you themselves that all that pain is well worth it when you can stare into your babies eyes.
Good luck and look to others for support during this time. It helps to be able to talk about things.
