Amanda, if you have been charting your basal body temps during the past year of ttc, I would STRONGLY suggest that you print those charts out and bring them to your doctor. I did this when I met with my doc at 7 mos of ttc and he was so impressed with the visuals that I WAS ovulating each month and that my luteal phases did seem to be too short (and perfectly timed intercourse was getting no results) that he had no qualms about not waiting until the one year mark to further explore what might be going on. At that visit, he ordered a bunch of labs for me that highlighted a thyroid issue (which can interfere with fertility) and he ordered a semen analysis for dh. He started me on Synthroid and I'm going back in May for another lab test to see how well it's working and dh's semen showed great numbers but funky morphology. Ask for labs to test your hormones and semen analysis for hubby, definitely. You might ask about fertility drugs like Clomid if your doc determines that your ovulation is weak. That's about the limit of my knowledge on this subject (hopefully I won't ever have to know anymore and neither will you!!). Good luck!
I think the best advice I can give is to be your own advocate at the doctor's office. If you've been ttc for a year then make sure you are armed with all the information about what you and your husband have already tried. Make sure you have all the information on how long your cycles are…ovulation tests you did etc. She'll need as much information as you have in order to point you in the right direction….even if it's just to refer you to another doctor who is a specialist.
Also, do research on what fertility treatments have the best results (If you're open to fert treatments)
