You should definitely find an ob/gyn or RE that can take the time out and explain EVERYTHING to you. You doctor should always explain all of your options to you and go into detail if you have any questions. If they don't, its time to find another one! You are never just another patient!
I had the same problem. HSG showed one blocked tube (from endometriosis). Just had it cleared by having a laparoscopy. Don't let ppl scare you. Neither the HSG nor the lap was as bad as they make it seem (although, every case is different). Believe me (and take it from a the biggest chicken ever!) its not that bad. The pain is not intolerable. The pain is basically just cramping pain (like with your period or before your period). My pain actually went away a few minutes after the HSG. Just remember to take an anti-inflamatory (such as motrin, aleve, or ibuprofen) about 1/2 hour to an hour before the procedure. Also, I know that its easier said than done but…you'll get through it easier if you try to relax during the procedure. Don't worry! Good luck to you & feel free to write me with any questions that you may have.

It depends on why they are blocked. If it is scarring sometimes it causes problems but most of the time it is a surgical procedure and is relatively easy and most insurance will cover it if it is causing you problems like pain etc… Good luck and I hope this helps

I had an HSG a few weeks ago. It;s not a big deal. It only takes about 10 minutes and is only fairly uncomfortable (like period cramps). It can tell if your tube is blocked, but since the tubes are only as think as a piece of angel hair spaghetti, if that, unblocking them is really hard. There is always a chance that the HSG itself could unclog your tube if it is blocked (this generally only happens if they used an oil based dye. The oil based can be more painful if there is a blockage, but it also has a slightly higher rate of unblocking tubes than water based dye). Even though that's not what the test is meant to do, it does happen sometimes.
You're right about the IUI not doing you any good. All that does is insert the sperm directly unto your uterus, which does no good if your tube is blocked. Your doctor will probably recommend IVF if your tube is severely blocked.

I've had 2 hsg's. The first time I was awake and it was the worse pain next to child birth. The second time I was asleep during a laparoscopy. During the hsg a dye is pushed through the fallopian tubes. This dye can clean out blockages if it isn't severe. Some doctors talk about a success rate with their patients conceiving shortly after this procedure.

I really think you should discuss with your doctor all your questions and concerns. If she is unwilling to talk to you about it then maybe you should change doctors.

sorry you're going through this but it should be a straight forward procedure, you'll probably need an IVF, but your doctor can tell you, if u don't feel comfortable with them get a new doctor, also there's a website where you can ask an RE (fertility specialist) online for free for their opinion, try http://www.FertilityTies.com
    good luck!
